Zidovudine - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Zidovudine cause?

Common side effects include:

  • Diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. This can be prevented by eating small frequent meals or sucking on candy.
  • Headache and pain. Mild painkillers (e.g. paracetamol) can be taken to reduce the pain.
  • Dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery
  • Anorexia
  • Fever
  • Fatigue/tiredness
  • Skin rash
  • Insomnia, sleep disturbances.

Inform your doctor if the side effects become severe and bothersome.

Report to the doctor immediately if your child complains of numbness or tingling of fingers, toes or feet.
