Q: Breast Services

APN - Breast Surgical Oncology Specialty Nursing - Breast Nursing Services The Breast Surgical APN services are part of a multidisciplinary team who provide breast cancer patients with support during their treatment journey. They act as counsellors, educators, coordinators and advocates for the patient during pre-operative assessments, post-operative recovery and follow-up reviews. The APNs in collaboration with the Breast Surgeons and Medical Oncologists also run survivorship clinics, guiding patients in their journey to transition into survivors, managing treatment- related side effects and co-morbidities. The survivorship clinics focus on surveillance, health screening and promoting healthy lifestyle to guide patients to live well after completion of treatment. Specialty nurses from breast nursing services provide comprehensive care including pre-operative counselling, post-operative wound and drain care, as well as seroma aspirations. They also serve as a vital source of support and guidance for breast cancer patients throughout their treatment journey and facilitate events and outreach programmes for survivors and the public. Through the Young Woman Breast Cancer (YoWo) programme, nurses provide dedicated guidance and support to young women with breast cancer aged 40 years and below, accompanying them throughout their entire cancer journey from diagnosis to completion of treatment.

Q: Lung Services

APN – Lung Medical Oncology Specialty Nursing - Lung Nursing Services Lung APN services collaborate with the lung medical oncology team to support lung cancer patients through their care. APNs run a Lung APN Clinic that provides comprehensive care to lung cancer patients, particularly those undergoing treatment with oral Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKIs) or experiencing symptoms related to their underlying cancer. In this service, the APN works closely with the primary consultant to review and monitor the progress of each patient, ensuring personalised care and timely interventions. The clinic’s approach integrates advanced practice nursing with multidisciplinary collaboration, enhancing patient outcomes and providing a holistic approach to cancer care. Working closely with the oncologists, lung specialty nurses provide nursing assessment, symptom management, patient education and phone triaging services. In addition, they support patients and caregivers through the transition from inpatient to outpatient care by providing post-discharge calls to evaluate interim care needs. Lung specialty nurses also support pleural clinics, where nurses provide education and discuss treatment options available for pleural effusion (fluid accumulation in pleural space).

APN - Lymphoma Specialty Nursing - Lymphoma Nursing Services A Lymphoma APN is a specialist nurse with advanced training in caring for people living with lymphoma, including those receiving treatments like CAR-T cell therapy. Our APNs are the main point of contact throughout a patient’s cancer journey. Before treatment begins, they prepare patients and families for what to expect. During treatment, they check in between chemotherapy cycles, monitor how the patient is responding, and manage any side effects early. After treatment ends, they continue to follow up regularly, support patient recovery, and carefully monitor a patient’s long-term health. Lymphoma nursing services provide comprehensive support and symptom management through teleconsultations. The specialty nurses also run a mid-cycle check clinic for lymphoma patients undergoing chemotherapy, where blood test results are reviewed midway through each chemotherapy cycle and symptoms are assessed to ensure optimal treatment outcomes, and patient safety and well-being.

APNs hold a Master of Nursing and are equipped with advanced clinical skills, allowing them to assess, diagnose, manage complex conditions, and prescribe medications. Specialty Nurses, on the other hand, are experts in specific oncology domains providing specialised clinical support, care coordination, and patient education throughout the cancer journey.
