Able to assess cancer genetic
To select applicable models for risk calculation and formation of differential diagnosis.
To elicit and illustrate a comprehensive medical family history.
To recognise the psychosocial concerns and apply decision making strategies for cancer reduction and prevention.
To perform targeted physical exam based on genetic assessment
To identify management strategies for high-risk families with identified or suspected genetic syndromes, and counsel with regards to cascade testing.
To identify resources for clinical development, educational advancement and utilization of genetic resources (OMIM, Genetic Alliance, etc.)
To define genetic technology and its utilization in research and detection of genetic mutations/variations. • To describe and discuss ethical and legal implications of genetic testing
To identify and illustrate the opportunity for development and implementation of clinical genetics resources.
To coordinate appropriate genetic testing with respect to the cases seen.
To attend and complete a certificate in 2-day basic genomic course conducted by NCCS Cancer Genetic Service.
Eligibility
Possess a valid practicing license with the Singapore Medical Council.
Registered under the Specialist Accreditation Board.
Completed residency in oncology-related program or specialties with interest in cancer genetics
Training Plan
Clinical Attachments:
See 5-7 patient cases per CGS clinic per week.
Prepare a differential diagnosis for each patient with research into etiology of each possible diagnosis, genetic testing information if available, applicable research studies, consideration of psychosocial elements of genetic counselling, and able to explain relevant complex genetic concepts.
Prepare and present cases at family review for discussion. Learn and practice the elements of targeted cancer genetics physical exam.
Attend the various tumour boards during their rotation.
Attend weekly journal club/ case review.
Special programs and additional training can be arranged for training to meet your specific goals.
Research & Teaching:
Opportunity to participate in clinical research work such as prospective or retrospective studies.
Propose and prepare an original clinical research question.
Option to participate in laboratory bench-work for best understanding of clinical relevance, testing options and techniques.
