Dr Poo Zi Xi is an Associate Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the Department of Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Her subspecialty is the care of women with complex and high risk pregnancies and her focus is on the health concerns of both mother and fetus prior to, during and after pregnancy. Dr Poo’s primary mission is to ensure her patients receive the best holistic care possible so they can undergo their antenatal journey safely.
Dr Poo graduated from Imperial College London in 2013, having obtained both a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and an intercalated Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Medical Sciences with Reproductive and Developmental Sciences. She was selected to join the Singhealth Obstetrics & Gynaecology Residency Programme in 2015, and was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) UK in 2019 and attained her Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2020. She subsequently was accredited as a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2022, and has also been appointed as Clinical Instructor with SingHealth Duke-NUS Obstetrics and Gynaecology Academic Clinical Programme (OBGYN ACP) in 2022.
Dr Poo firmly believes in lifelong learning in order to deliver the best care for her patients. In her Residency years, she has demonstrated a consistent track record of pursuing research to advance her learning, which culminated in her being awarded the 4th Singhealth Duke-NUS OBGYN Academic Clinical Program (ACP) Research Grant. Dr Poo’s research papers have been published in renowned local and international journals. She has also presented her research work at both local and overseas conferences e.g., “Optimal HbA1c level of 5.5% predicts gestational diabetes and adverse pregnancy outcomes amongst Singaporean women at San Diego. Dr Poo won the Merit Award under the Basic and Translational Research Category at the 4th ACP Research Day in 2016. She also played a key role in Quality Improvement in KKH, having spearheaded as the team leader in the transition to Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in KKH.
Dr Poo has been recognized multiple times for excellence in her O&G residency years. She was awarded the annual RiSE Best Resident Award for 4 consecutive years from 2015-2019 and also obtained the Singhealth Quality Service Award in 2020. She also believes in paying it forward; she regularly mentors junior colleagues and medical students from all three medical schools in Singapore across Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Duke NUS and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. In recognition of her passion for teaching, she was awarded the RiSE Inspiring Resident Educator Award in 2021.
