Dr Ong is a specialist consultant in palliative medicine. As a clinical-educator, Dr Ong teaches the topics of Professionalism, Ethics, Communications and Humanities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is also Director, Office of Medical Humanities, Singhealth Medicine Academic Clinical Programme.
