Dr Olivia Huang Shimin is currently a Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) in the Glaucoma Department. She graduated from the University of New South Wales, with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours), as well as a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) (Honours) in 2010. She subsequently trained under the ACGME-I (American Council of Graduate Medical Education – International) accredited SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program, and obtained her Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2016 and Ophthalmology Specialist accreditation as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2018, where she was awarded the Gold Medal for Best Candidate in Cataract and Refractive Ophthalmology in the Specialists’ Exit Examination. She also became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (United Kingdom) in the same year.
Dr Huang has received multiple academic, teaching and service awards, including the SingHealth Outstanding Resident in Ophthalmology award thrice in 2015, 2017 and 2018. She was awarded the SingHealth Inspiring Resident Educator Award in 2018 in recognition of her contribution to medical education, and continues to be actively involved in the training of junior doctors, medical students and allied health professionals. She was appointed various leadership and administrative roles, serving as Deputy Clinical Director of Pharmacy in 2020, Chief Resident in 2018 and Lead Resident in 2016. She is committed in serving the community, and regularly volunteers at community eye screening projects, and provision of educational talks at public forums, specifically in promoting public awareness of glaucoma. She is also active in research, particularly in glaucoma, her field of interest. She has published various scientific papers in respected peer-reviewed medical journals, and has presented her research work at numerous international and local scientific conferences.
