Dr Jun J. Mao
Keynote speaker


Dr Mao is the Chief of the Integrative Medicine Service and the Laurance S. Rockefeller Chair in Integrative Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is also Professor of Medicine and Populational Health Sciences at the Weill Cornell College of Medicine. He is a board-certified family physician and a licensed acupuncturist who combines Western and Eastern approaches to manage pain and symptoms in cancer patients. His research focuses on investigating the effects, mechanisms, and integration of Complementary and Integrative Medicine (CIM) for symptom management in cancer. He is the past president of the Society for Integrative Oncology, an international organization with over 500 members from over 40 countries dedicated to the science and integration of evidence-based complementary approaches in conventional cancer care. He is currently the President of the Society for Acupuncture Research (SAR), a research organization to advance the scientific understanding and clinical evidence of acupuncture. ​



Professor Alexandre Chan

Prof Chan is a Founding Chair and Professor in Clinical Pharmacy at University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is a Visiting Professor at National Cancer Center Singapore. He is also affiliated with the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in Orange, USA. He is a board-certified specialist in Pharmacotherapy and Oncology Pharmacy and an elected Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP). He was a Past President of ISOPP and a current Board Member of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer. He is also appointed as a Specialty Council member for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Council.



Ms Eugenie Spiguel

Ms Spiguel is a nurse practitioner with over 20 years of oncology experience. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Delaware and received a Master of Science in Nursing with a dual degree of Adult Nurse Practitioner and Holistic Nurse Practitioner from New York University. She has worked with both pediatric and adult patients in a variety of clinical settings. She most recently was a nurse practitioner in the Integrative Medicine Department at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where she educated patients and staff on various integrative medicine therapies. ​



Dr Lee Shing Fung
Moderator


Dr Lee is an Associate Consultant at the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) and serves within the Department of Radiation Oncology. His contributions to radiotherapy services extend across the NUHS and NHG clusters. He completed his medical training at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2010 and was appointed as a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (UK) in 2015. His research emphasizes enhancing the synergy between radiotherapy and systemic therapies, supportive care, treatment toxicities, and quality of life. He is also actively engaged in large-scale data studies based on population databases through collaborations with London School of Hygiene and Medicine, UK, investigating the causal inference of various agents on cancer risk and outcomes. His projects involve assessing the application of novel palliative radiotherapy dose-fractionation for metastatic cancer and exploring changes in physiological functions and blood counts following radiation therapy for lymphoma and gastrointestinal tract tumors. ​



Ms Lee Miaw Sim

Ms Lee is a Senior Dietitian in Singapore General Hospital. She has a special interest in clinical areas of oncology and nutrition support. Besides providing evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to medical and surgical oncology patients who require individualised nutrition interventions, she also actively participates in the multidisciplinary rounds with the Oncology Rehabilitation and Nutrition Support Services teams. She was awarded the HMDP fellowship and has completed the advanced practice training for Nutrition in Medical Oncology at the Barnes Jewish Hospital and Siteman Cancer Center in the United States this year.



Ms Sheryl Tay

Ms Tay graduated with a BSc (Biomedical Science and Traditional Chinese Medicine) from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) in 2018. After graduation in 2018, she worked in a private clinic, providing TCM treatments to patients. In 2020, she furthered her studies in TCM by doing a PhD from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. She always believed in a holistic approach to healthcare and would like to see the expansion of TCM use to care for patients. She did a brief stint in National Cancer Centre, working in a TCM workgroup, which provides evidence-based research for TCM, and educating patients and healthcare professionals on the efficacies of TCM medicines and therapies that can equip patients with better care. She is currently practicing in a TCM clinic - Yi TCM.



Ms Lynn Teong
Moderator


Ms Teong is a senior dietitian with over 6 years of experience at National University Hospital. She is a registered dietitian under the UK’s Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) upon obtaining her degree in the United Kingdom. Over the past 5 years, she has specialized in oncology and has been offering patients nutritional guidance during their cancer treatments at the National Cancer Institute of Singapore. Her proactive involvement in various quality improvement projects including a notable effort to reduce post-gastrectomy weight loss through early nutrition intervention highlights her commitment to enhancing patient outcomes. Her dedication extends to research, and she aims to continue her efforts in making a more meaningful impact with nutrition in the cancer field. ​



Ms Vijayalaxmi Chadachan

Ms Vijayalaxmi is a senior physiotherapist and a certified lymphedema practitioner with over 16 years of experience in both acute and community settings. As a strong advocate for cancer rehabilitation throughout the entire spectrum of cancer care, she is experienced with promoting rehabilitation and exercise among cancer survivors in the community.



Dr Tan Pei Ling

Dr Tan received her M.D. from Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School (Singapore) in 2012. She completed her basic medical training in SingHealth Internal Medicine program followed by her specialist training in SingHealth Rehabilitation Medicine program. She is a consultant in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Singapore General Hospital, with special interests in cancer rehabilitation & survivorship, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. ​



Ms Melissa Sim
Moderator


Ms Sim is a physiotherapist who graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic and with honours from Trinity College of Dublin. She then graduated with her Masters in Palliative Care from King’s College London in 2020. She has more than 8 years of experience working in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She is passionate about working with the cancer, palliative, and end-of-life populations. She is also a certified lymphoedema therapist and works closely with the multi-disciplinary team at the breast clinic in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She assists in the rehabilitation of cancer patients who suffer from not only lymphoedema but other associated cancer-related syndromes as well. She strongly advocates for exercise as a rehabilitation tool in this population group to improve symptoms and quality of life.
