The department consists of accredited specialists in General Surgery with sub-specialty interests in Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgical Oncology, Bariatric (Obesity) and Metabolic Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery (key-hole surgery) and Diagnostic & Therapeutic Endoscopy. 

Our team of surgeons are committed to provide state of the art and evidence-based surgical management of various upper digestive tract cancers. 

Our Upper GI Department specializes in the surgical management of 
  1. Esophageal cancers
  2. Stomach cancers
  3. Duodenal cancers
  4. GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal tumors)
We work within multidisciplinary teams consisting of medical and radiation oncologists from National Cancer Centre Singapore(NCCS)

We evaluate and manage patients who present with either one or more of the following symptoms /complaints:
  • Abdominal pain/bloatedness
  • Abdominal swelling/mass
  • Anaemia
  • Bloody/black stools, positive stool occult blood test
  • Difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Dyspepsia / indigestion
  • Gallstones/bile duct stones
  • Groin swelling
  • Heartburn / reflux
  • Hernia
  • Jaundice
  • Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
