Portraits of Hope

Photos by: Raffles Studio

On Saturday 13 July 2019, space on the fourth floor of NCCS was dressed up in garden-themed décor for the day.

The morning was dedicated to "Portraits of Hope", a free family portrait service, benefiting a few NCCS patients and their families.

Rooms in NCCS were converted into a photography studio by volunteers from Raffles Studio, and a beauty zone staffed by volunteers from Shiseido Life Quality Beauty Center and Shiseido Professional that sponsored specialized makeup and hairstyling services. There was also a bonding space for families to decorate their own family photo frame. This scrapbooking activity was facilitated by staff and patient volunteers.

For many, it is a luxury or special occasion that prompts a family to get a professional family portrait done. However, when a person or a family struggles to cope with cancer, a family portrait is less of a priority. And yet more often than not, the support of loved ones and images of good memories with them serve as a powerful source of strength and hope.

It was a special and heart-warming experience with the families, seeing their faces light up with smiles and knowing that the portraits served as unique gifts.

"As cancer patients sometimes experience skin concerns as side effects of cancer treatments, the Shiseido Life Quality Center is happy to volunteer our time to do good through our expertise in offering specialised makeup for these concerns. The joy and smiles brought to the cancer patients and their families is truly priceless."  ~ Jiayun, Shiseido Asia Pacific Pte Ltd
