Cyclophosphamide (Oral) - What is it for

​Cyclophosphamide is an anticancer medicine used in the treatment of various types of cancers such as lymphomas and leukemias.

What side effects can Cyclophosphamide (Oral) cause?

  • Nausea, vomiting or appetite loss
  • Mouth sores or ulcers
  • Decrease in the white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets
    This increases your risk to infection. Avoid crowded areas and sick people. Wash your hands after using the toilet and before handling food.
  • Tiredness and lack of energy may occur
    If tiredness is a problem, do not drive a car or operate machinery. Avoid alcohol as it may make your feel more tired and drowsy.
  • Changes in the menstrual cycle for women

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Fever of 38°C or higher, chills or sore throat
  • Pain on urination
  • Redness, swelling or pain at the injection site
  • Unusual/unexplained bleeding, bruising or black tarry stools
  • Cough and shortness of breath
  • Joint pain and swelling of feet and lower legs
  • Hypersensitivity reactions like rashes, facial swelling, breathing difficulty​

How should Cyclophosphamide (Oral) be used?

​Take the tablets during or immediately after meals. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medicine. Follow the prescribed dosage. Do not cut or crush the tablet. To minimize the risk of bladder irritation, do not take at bedtime.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

​If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double dose.

What should I do if I overdose?

​If you overdose on this medicine, inform your doctor immediately.​
