Knit & Kraft for Hope

Synonym(s):

Handcrafted with care, the items created through this programme — including knitted hats and post-surgery breast prosthetics known as "knockers" — can help restore some self-confidence in patients as they go through their cancer treatement. We welcome skilled knitters and crocheters who can adhere to infection control*, quality, and design guidelines.

Current knitting and crocheting opportunities include:

  • Hats-knitting (using circular needles)
  • Knockers-knitting (using double-pointed needles)
  • Butterfly-crocheting for grief support (Ad-Hoc/ Project Based)
  • Manage the Volunteer Services Booth to help distribute hats, knockers, and leaflets for support resources

Requirements:

  • Experienced knitters only
  • Able to commit to knitting 5 to 10 hats/crochet items for patients in a year
  • Interested volunteers will be issued a small ball of yarn to knit a sample piece. Once done, submit a picture of the sample for our instructors to assess
  • Accepted knitters will attend the knitting workshops (One term – Three Saturdays, from 10am - 12pm), aimed at helping them to be acquainted with the patterns and techniques use in knitting hats in NCCS
  • They will then receive yarn to knit hats or knockers offsite
  • Do note that, for patients’ well-being, we are unable to accept items knitted outside of the group

* Please note that, in the interest of patient well-being and logistical constraints, we are only able to accept items crafted within our group setting.

Current crafting opportunities include:

  • Facilitate monthly activities at the crafting booth (3rd Friday of the month) for patients and caregivers to create and take home special festive and decorative craft pieces.
  • Materials will be provided.

Number of Volunteers Needed: One for 10am - 1pm on 3rd Friday of the month
