Row for Hope 2019

Winner of Dragon Boat race - SingHealth Dragons!

Into its third year, the Row For Hope Boat Races started in 2016 as a collaboration between the National Cancer Centre Singapore and The Oxford and Cambridge Society of Singapore. This year's race celebrates a uniquely Singapore interpretation of the boat races of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge which have traditionally been held annually on the River Thames in London since 1856.

In support of cancer survivorship, more than 160 rowers and dragon boaters competed and raced down the waters by Marina Bay.

Likening rowing to the fight against cancer, NCCS' Medical Director, Professor William Hwang, shared, "The key victory is through teamwork, discipline and perseverance. We should embrace these values in order to work together towards making more cancer survivors."

In a day chock full of fierce rivalry and fighting spirit, this fierce determination manifested itself in the waters, where races were fast and equally furious. In the frentic dragonboat race, SingHealth Dragons came out as eventual winners after a literal battle in the waters.

Cambridge ran out overall champs after winning the Men's and Mixed Crews' races over Oxford, who took home the shield for the International Crew's race.

Both fierce rivals came together for a single race to take on Team ASBO (Any School But OxBridge). Team ASBO proved their rowing talent once again, winning the race to maintain their good winning record against OxBridge.

The race village had a variety of activities. Apart from health and sponsors' booths there was a special charity booth - where visitors could make donations and record a video for their social media accounts. A special land rowing competition was also the center of much flurry as participants took turns to challenge for the longest distance covered in 30 seconds. Participants at the challenge were cheered on by Singaporean Olympic Rower, and SEA Games Gold Medalist Saiyidah Aisyah.

Overall, an eventful and action-filled day of water racing, all for a meaningful cause. Check out pictures and acknowledgements below!
