Tofacitinib - What is it for

Tofacitinib belongs to a class of medicine called “JAK (Janus Kinases) inhibitor” which reduces inflammation by blocking the activity of a group of enzymes in the JAK family. It helps to reduce symptoms such as joint pain and swelling and improves your performance of daily activities and quality of life.

Tofacitinib is used for the treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) where Methotrexate is inadequate or causes intolerable side-effects. It may be used on its own, in combination with Methotrexate, or other conventional synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs). It has been used for other autoimmune diseases such as moderate to severe Ulcerative Colitis (UC).
