Posaconazole - Dosage and How to Use

How should Posaconazole be used?

Posaconazole can be taken once to four times daily. The doctor may change the dosage of posaconazole depending on blood tests results. Always follow the doctor's instructions strictly.

Suspension

  • Take this drug with or within 20 minutes of a full meal. You may be advised to take with a high fat meal ( e.g peanut butter) by your doctor/pharmacist.
  • If you are not able to eat a full meal, take this drug with a liquid nutrition supplement or an acidic carbonated drink like cola. If you are not able to drink these drinks, talk with the doctor.
  • Shake well before use.

Tablet

  • Take this drug with food.
  • Swallow whole. Do not chew, break, or crush.
  • If there is trouble swallowing, talk with the doctor.

Do not switch between taking posaconazole tablets and oral suspension without talking to your doctor or pharmacist because it may result in a lack of efficacy or an increased risk of adverse reactions.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

Suspension :

If you forget a dose , take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearer to the time of your next dose,skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time

Tablet :

If it is 12 hours or more after scheduled dosing, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or exta doses

What should I do if I overdose?

Posaconazole - Additional Information

​Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to posaconazole.  Before starting posaconazole, do inform your doctor of any other medications that you are already on. 

Do not take during pregnancy. Effective contraception is advised in females of childbearing potential.
