Phenazopyridine - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Phenazopyridine cause?

Common side effects include:

  • ​Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach cramps
  • Reddish-orange discolouration of the urine
  • May stain contact lenses if they are handled after touching the medication directly

Consult your healthcare professional immediately if you have dark urine or light coloured stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellowing of your eyes or skin.

The symptoms of a drug allergy include one or more of the following:

  • Swollen face/eyes/lips/tongue
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Itchy skin rashes over your whole body

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop your medication and see your healthcare professional immediately.

Before taking Phenazopyridine , what precautions must I follow?
