What side effects can Ginkgo Biloba cause?

This supplement is generally well tolerated. Some common side effects that you may experience are headache, and gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea or vomiting or loose stools.

See the doctor immediately if you have allergic reactions such as rashes, swelling in the eye, lips or difficulty in breathing after taking the supplement.

Before taking Ginkgo Biloba , what precautions must I follow?

Always check with your doctor before starting ginkgo biloba.

Inform your doctor that you are taking ginkgo biloba if you are scheduled for surgery, pregnant or plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist before starting ginkgo biloba, if

  • you have bleeding disorders.
  • you are on medication that helps to thin your blood, such as warfarin, heparin or enoxaparin.
  • you have epilepsy or you are on anti-seizure medications.
  • you are on an antiretroviral drug such as efavirenz as it may decrease the effectiveness of the drug.
