Denosumab - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Denosumab cause?

  • Muscle, back, bone or joint pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Slight tiredness
  • Increased cholesterol levels
  • Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:
  • Excessive muscle cramping
  • Giddiness or confusion
  • Excessive skin dryness, irritation or rashes
  • Chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Fever, pain upon urination, gum pain or gum bleeding
  • Severe nausea or vomiting or abdominal pain
  • Allergic reaction e.g. rash, swelling of eyelids and face

Before taking Denosumab , what precautions must I follow?

  • Ensure you are taking enough calcium and vitamin D daily, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene. Inform your dentist that you are on Denosumab.
  • For women: Use effective birth control and inform your doctor if you intend to get pregnant or breast-feed.
