Pulmonary Endarterectomy - What it is

Pulmonary endarterectomy (also known as PEA) is an open-heart surgery carried out for patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). The operation is conducted to remove blood clots from the pulmonary arteries in the lungs to allow regular blood flow.
The introduction of NHCS CTEPH programme, which started in 2016, is the first in Singapore to offer comprehensive treatment options for CTEPH patients, including pulmonary endarterectomy, balloon pulmonary angioplasty and medical therapy.
