Geo Energy Group employees unite to support cancer cause

For employees of Geo Energy Group, Run for Hope is a bonding event that they look forward to. An annual run co-organised by the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) and Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, the event is held to raise awareness towards cancer research.

When Run for Hope 2020 was converted into a virtual run from 4 November to 31 December 2020, Geo Energy did not hesitate to continue their support. Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr Tung Kum Hon, and his 43 employees including directors, senior management and support staff from both their local and Jakarta offices signed up for the run.

As part of their strategy to build a sustainable business, Geo Energy hopes to do their part to create a positive and lasting impact on the community by participating in this event. Many of their employees are avid runners and they wanted to engage staff in a running activity while supporting a good cause.

The company reached out to NCCS in 2018 and indicated their interest to support Run for Hope as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility efforts. Since then, they have supported Run for Hope for three consecutive years and contributed to a total of $94,000 in sponsorships and donations.

In the past, Geo Energy’s employees would run and train together and bring along their families to participate in the run. The oldest participant was in her 60s and the youngest participant was aged just one!

To bring greater awareness of the cancer cause and foster a deeper connection between employees Geo Energy set specific dates where their Singapore and Indonesia teams would wear the Run for Hope T-shirt and run ‘together’.

However, current safe-distancing measures have meant staff have had to train on their own to prepare for the virtual run. Nevertheless, they continued to motivate each other through a common running app.

“I believe that there is strength in numbers and with the community’s support, nobody needs to fight cancer on their own. I have always encouraged our employees to do their best to help others. I hope that through our efforts, we can make a difference in the lives of cancer patients,” said Mr Tung Kum Hon.

Corporate partners play a vital role in raising funds and awareness for NCCS. Through staff fundraising and volunteering initiatives, corporate partners encourage and motivate patients affected by cancer. To find out how you can become a corporate partner of NCCS, please contact donate@nccs.com.sg.
