A show of team spirit at ‘SingHealth Lights Up Lives’: NHCS teams strike their best power poses before taking on the Fitness Warrior challenge.
For nearly two decades, since 2004, NHCS has been a proud supporter of the President’s Challenge, joining hands with SingHealth to uplift the less fortunate in our community. This year was no different, as NHCS again rallied our efforts for the SingHealth President’s Challenge 2024 (SHPC24) under the inspiring theme, "Igniting Hope Through Compassion". In true NHCS spirit, departments across the entire NHCS came together, organising and participating in a series of creative and engaging fundraising activities and raising funds to support those in need.
SingHealth Lights Up Lives!
The signature event of SHPC 2024, SingHealth Lights Up Lives!, perfectly embodied this year’s theme. NHCS proudly fielded three enthusiastic teams in the Fitness Warriors team challenge. In this challenge, each group tackled a series of workouts, repeating them as many times as possible within 10 minutes. What made the event even more meaningful was that each exercise corresponded to a letter, which together spelled the word that defined the heart of the event: COMPASSION.

Excitement peaked when fellow colleagues enthusiastically chanted, “Heart Centre (NHCS)! Heart Centre (NHCS)!” in response to the emcee’s call for cheers. Safe to say, ours was one of the loudest at the venue.

The Ironman and Ironwoman challenges were no small feat, with participants pushing their limits in exercises like jumping jacks and back lunges. Teams raced to complete the set of exercises that spelled out the word, SINGHEALTH, in the shortest time possible.
Dion Tng, Physiotherapist, Cardiac Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Services (CPRS) shared, “It was an incredible privilege to work out for a good cause, but the highlight was when my teammates surprised us with handmade posters, cheering us on during the Ironman and Ironwoman challenge!” Before the challenge, the team trained together at the NHCS gym, building not only their physical strength but also deepening their friendship and camaraderie.

Dancing with the CEOs: A Fun Celebration
In a fun and unexpected twist, our CEO, Prof Yeo Khung Keong, made his first-ever appearance on a dancing reel on Instagram, connecting with our digital-native audience in an exciting way. To celebrate NHCS reaching its fundraising goal, we roped in GCEO Prof Ng Wai Hoe for a special treat! Together, they showed off their moves to the viral "Apple" dance from TikTok, bringing some lighthearted joy to the occasion. Go check out the reel on Instagram right now and give it a like— you won't want to miss this rare chance to see our CEOs dancing!

Department Fundraising: A Collective Effort for a Good Cause
Our fundraising efforts at NHCS kicked off with enthusiasm in July, starting with a pledge card drive and followed by a series of creative, department-initiated activities that brought the entire NHCS together for a good cause.
Nursing Administration went door to door with their sales of blind boxes, Sanrio toys, and tote bags; while the Nursing Outreach and Wellness Council (NOWC) offered an array of items from potted plants to massage guns and handheld fans. Food was also a big highlight! The CTICU/PACU/OT Recovery team brought the taste of Malaysia to NHCS with Oriental Kopi, while Cardiac Laboratory wowed everyone with global delights from Spain and the Philippines. The Corporate Development team tempted everyone with keropok and tiramisu, and the COO’s office, along with Corporate Planning & Performance (CPP), Process Transformation & Improvement (PTI), and Strategic Operations (SO), with baked cookies. The Cardiac Clinic (Nursing) served up croissant sets, along with many other treats.
(L-R): Going door to door to fundraise for a great cause; The ever-popular claw machine, sponsored by Chief Nurse Amy Tay, attracted an eager crowd during lunchtime.

NHCS also held two President’s Challenge 2024 Charity Bazaars, featuring a delectable array of food, including coffee, pastries, kuehs, keto-friendly ice cream, and waffles, alongside household items promoting wellness.

NHCS Teams Up with Singapore Hospice Council for Outreach Event
This year, NHCS also joined hands with the Singapore Hospice Council for a meaningful outreach effort. At the SPH Health Bazaar on 24 August at Suntec Atrium, staff from the NOWC volunteered at the Singapore Hospice Council booth.
"Engaging with the community to promote palliative care was deeply fulfilling as it helped spread awareness and foster empathy," shared Nurse Educator, Zeng Wenying, Nursing Development Unit (NDU). The team engaged the public by explaining the importance of palliative care through interactive games.
NE Zeng Wenying, NDU, SSN Feng Jing, Short Stay Unit, and NC Zainab Binte Amat, NDU from the NOWC team lent a helping hand at the Singapore Hospice Council booth, bringing smiles with fun games and giveaways.
The SingHealth President's Challenge Grand Finale 2024 took place on October 5th, where SingHealth proudly presented the total amount raised, $1,316,909, to our Guest of Honour, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
A heartfelt Thank You! to all our colleagues for your continuous support and tireless commitment to making SHPC24 a success!
