Although research has shown that most children adjust relatively well to the challenges of cancer and its treatment, a small group of children demonstrate difficulties in coping and adjustment that may require intervention.
Screening methods to identify those at higher risk early in the treatment trajectory can facilitate interventions to mitigate or prevent more significant difficulties.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital recently instituted two programmes targeted at newly diagnosed patients and completion of therapy to provide optimal levels of care.
