Managing Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia from a Multidisciplinary Perspective
Dementia affects 10% of our seniors in Singapore. Currently dementia is a relentlessly progressive disease with no cure. Caregivers for our persons living with dementia (PLWD) are at risk of burn out while they care for our PLWD. Most of the challenges faced by our caregivers involve managing the behavioural symptoms of dementia. In the institutional settings like hospital and residential facilities, staff are often worn out caring for a PLWD exhibiting behavioural symptoms. Through didactic and experiential learning, the event aims to help participants gain an understanding of the approaches involved in dealing with the behavioural symptoms of dementia, as well as the available resources and communication techniques to manage daily challenges faced by PLWD, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
