2. CANCERWISE WORKSHOPS
a. CancerWise Women Workshop
This comprehensive workshop addresses concerns about female cancers e.g. breast and cervix. Learn from cancer experts how to reduce risks and what to do when you have suspicious signs and symptoms.

b. CancerWise Workshop on Liver, Stomach and Colorectal Cancers
Colorectal, liver and stomach cancer are among the top ten cancers affecting Singapore men and women. This workshop is designed to empower healthy individuals with the ability to recognise suspicious signs and symptoms, identify risk factors and take measures to detect and prevent cancer.

Registration is now opened for all 3 workshops. Seats are reserved first-come-first-served and are limited to a small number to allow participants more interaction with the specialists.

3. SUPPORT GROUP PROGRAMS – NCC’s Holistic Approach to Cancer Care
These programs provide patients and their caregivers an opportunity to relate with others in similar situations, learn coping skills, build friendship, share experiences, reflect and grow. Sessions are led by Medical Social Workers experienced in these fields.

a. Breaking the Silence
Date: 20 March (Sat)
Closing date for registration: 18 March (Thur)

Patients and their loved ones often protect each other from the truth about their illness. “Breaking The Silence” will address issues about secrets revolving around hurt, anger, guilt, despair, fear of suffering and expectations.


b. Rediscovering Resources Within
Date: 3 April (Sat)
Closing date for registration: 30 Mar (Thur)

Rediscover your inner strength that was lost when illness struck. Regain your energy and find resilience in the midst of uncertainties.


c. When Caring Doesn’t Help Anymore…

Date: 17 April (Sat)
Closing date for registration: 15 April (Thur)

Caring can sometimes be controlling to some patients. For others, no amount of care is enough. So what is caring and what does caring entail? Find out from caregivers their experiences of caring for their loved ones with cancer.


d. What Is This Feeling?

Date: 8 May (Sat)
Closing date for registration: 6 May (Thur)

Feelings of anxiety, fears, grief and anger may stay with you without you being aware. Some patients have longer periods of low or depressive moods. This group session explores these common feelings and look at how others are dealing with them.


e. A Different Look

Date: 15 May (Sat)
Closing date for registration: 13 May (Thur)

‘A Different Look’ is for patients who have temporary or permanent changes to their appearance and physical functioning. These changes can affect a patient’s self-confidence and their accustomed way of life. This interactive session provides a platform for patients to explore cope mechanisms and learn from each other’s experiences.


f. A Psychological Way of Managing Your Symptoms

Date: 21 May (Friday)
Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

This is a psycho-educational session that explores socio-psychological methods of relieving anxieties and unpleasant symptoms through understanding the socio-construction of belief systems, the use of techniques such as distraction, relaxation exercises and other coping mechanisms.


 

g. Regaining Self, Regaining Intimacy

Date: 4 June (Friday)
Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

(Opened to 6 couples or 12 participants)
Sexuality and intimacy issues are often less discussed by couples facing a serious illness. This session provides an avenue for patients and their partners to maintain open communication, close emotional bonds and intimacy. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring along their partners to fully benefit from this interactive group session.
