Those Who Have Left Us Are Always Alive In Our Hearts!

While there’s no escaping from grief, there are ways to overcome it as Adeline who is from the Grief in Recovery Group shares her personal encounter.

As I looked back in time, it was not easy to wrench myself free from the clutches of grief. I felt it’s like a big art piece on glass which has been shattered. The pieces, I thought, can never be put back again. As I wallowed in grief I discovered it could be overpowering, almost all consuming and incapacitating. It can take the centre stage and control your life. Everything else and everyone else becomes unimportant and is pushed aside. The pain is crippling and agonizing. Yet I was told this feeling is NORMAL. Or is it?

The pain comes because there was love. We know the feeling of love never dies. That’s why the pain we feel lingers even with the passage of time. To overcome the pain, we have to let our feeling of love take centre stage. It is this love that will keep you going. Let your love for the one you lost give you the hope, the strength and the courage to overpower your pain, anger and despair. In time, you will find love transforms your pain into fond memories.

Do note that grief does not favour one for another. It treats everyone the same!

We need to face up to what has happened. We have to find ways to bless our future by opening doors to new avenues. We need to remember the blessings from families and friends, and the common bonds we all shared with the one we lost. Only then would we be taking the right step forward.

All the good things will pass but we can also look for better things to come in the future. What we need do now is to cherish those who are with us, and pass on the love to all who affect our lives!

Care for the young who have been left behind; fill their cup of emptiness with joy and happiness as they journey through life. For a mother, it is her children’s warmth and laughter that will mend her bleeding heart.

Learn to hold the promise that our loved ones are not lost from us forever. They are not gone completely; we can learn to live with peace in our hearts. Our comfort comes from knowing that our beloved ones are always watching. They are perhaps at a distance where we can’t see or touch them, but we can always feel them in our hearts and our spirit.

Death is a friend to no one. It may put an end to a life but not a relationship!
