Colorectal Cancer

In Singapore, colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer in either males or females but when counted together, it becomes the most commonly occurring cancer, with a total of 6101 cases from 1998-2002. Worldwide, it is the third most common cancer. The economic impact, as well as the cancer-related morbidity and mortality are considerable, and make prevention of this disease a major public health concern.
Thankfully, over the last two decades, being diagnosed with colorectal cancer, even at end stage, is no longer associated with a death sentence. With newer treatments, many individuals are living with a history of colorectal cancer, or living with colorectal cancer. In this edition, we learn of the new managements of colorectal cancer, and revisit the cares of patients living with the consequences of treatment.

Happy reading.
