CIRCLE OF LIFE

In 2007, the Sylvia McCully School of Dancing adopted the NCC Research Fund (NCCRF) as the charity of choice in a dance benefit coordinated by the NCC Foundation, which raised a net amount of $50,000 over two evenings in December at the Victoria Theatre.

Ballerinas from ages six to sixty breathed passion and creativity into the recital. Mr and Mrs Michael Palmer (Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris – Punggol GRC) lent their goodwill support and were the Guests-of-Honor; Professor Soo Khee Chee (Director of NCC) and Dr Charles Toh (Chairman of the NCCRF Board of Trustees) with their significant spouses were the VIPs. Ms Sylvia McCully, who is an internationally renowned ballerina and prominent teacher in our community, choreographed the dance ensemble, which saw excerpts from ballet classics like the Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker Suite, Les Sylphides, Sylvia, Napoli and Coppelia.

The evenings also witnessed the keen participation of our Centre’s very own cancer survivors – the Paddlers in Pink - that culminated in a heartwarming finale performance. The communal meaning of the recital was gracefully expressed when the ballerinas came together in a symbolic union with our brave dancers of life for solidarity in their fight against cancer.

The organizing committee at the NCC Foundation would like to thank all performers, stage and logistics personnel, corporate sponsors, donors and audiences for making this event a memorably successful one.
