Healthcare Workers Reminded That Regular Breast Screening Saves Lives.

Singapore, 26 Sep 2005 - Throughout October, over 6800 SingHealth staff will be reminded not to neglect their own breast health even while they care for the health of their patients.

"In this year's Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), we wanted to reach out to healthcare workers, who are predominantly female. Healthcare workers need to be as vigilant about breast health and go for regular re-screening if they are aged 40 and above. Being in the healthcare industry, it is easy to take readily available screening facilities for granted. The key message is that breast cancer can happen to anyone, and our healthcare workers who participate in regular mammography can act as ambassadors of this cause' says Dr Ho Gay Hui, Chairperson of BCAM 05 and senior consultant, National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS).

Specially organised by NCCS in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Singapore General Hospital, SingHealth Polyclinics, Singapore National Eye Centre, National Dental Centre and Singapore Health Services, these fun and educational activities are organised at the Outram medical hub. The public including visitors and patients can join in the fun. BCAM activities will include a mini concert, ladies and a care bear in pink walking around, campus-wide hunt for breast cancer information as well as collaborative art exhibition by artist Susie Wong and breast cancer survivors.
