A number of quality management initiatives that have also been implemented. These initiatives include:

Telephone Follow-up

Nurses at ATU implemented the telephone follow-up for new cases undergoing chemotherapy treatment. The objectives are as follows:

To provide a support system for patients to better manage side effects of chemotherapy at home

To determine patient’s clinical status following outpatient chemotherapy

To give personalized advice related to patient symptoms and needs

To establish and strengthen ongoing nurse-patient relationship

Proper Cleaning, Disinfecting and Storage of Nasoendocopes

The objectives of this quality initiative was t o streamline and improve the work processes including cleaning, disinfecting, storage as well as enhancing the skills competencies of the SOC staff handling the nasoendoscopes at the end of 9 months.

Nursing Documentation Forms and Folder

ATU nurses implemented the nursing documentation and folder to facilitate accurate, clear, concise, complete, timely and meaningful nursing documentation in Ambulatory Treatment Unit.

Chemotherapy Protocol

ATU Nurse Manager and Nurse Clinicians developed the chemotherapy protocol to educate patients on their chemotherapy protocol regime with specific instruction at Ambulatory Treatment Unit.

Utilisation of Flowcharts in the Administration of Clinical Trial Protocols in ATU

The Chemotherapy Nurse Clinician and ATU Nurse Clinician worked with the Lead Clinical Research Coordinator worked together to develop flowcharts in the administration of the administration of clinical trial protocols in ATU. The objective of this quality initiative is to deliver medication safely to patients who are on trial regimens at ATU.

Post-Operative Telephone Follow-up Call Following Ambulatory Surgery at the NCC’s OT

The OT nurses implemented the post-operative telephone follow-up call following ambulatory surgery at the NCC’s OT. The objectives of this telephone follow-up call were to assess the clinical status of post-operative patients using a structured Post-Operative Procedure Follow-Up Call form, ensure consistency in the questions asked and impart advice accordingly.

Water-Resistant Unoplast/ Blake Drain Pouch for Patients with Breast Surgery

The objectives of this quality initiative to compare the effectiveness of using an innovative drain pouch and a safety pin for breast surgery patients with a Unoplast or Blake drain in general wards setting of a Singapore tertiary hospital.
