Ultra-Violet Radiation

Overexposure to ultra-violet radiation (UV light) and sunburn damage our skin may lead to skin cancer. The damage caused by UV light and sunburn can accumulate over the years and may take many years to become skin cancer.

Tanning is our skin's response to UV light. It is a protective reaction to prevent further injury to your skin from the sun. However, it does not prevent skin cancer.

Here are some helpful tips to avoid exposure to the sun and prevent skin Cancer.

 
Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., when ultraviolet rays are strongest. Even one or two bad cases of sunburn can be dangerous in the long term, particularly for children.
   
Avoid overexposure to direct sunlight.
Carry along an umbrella or walk along sheltered paths if you spot any
   
Apply sun-block lotion to protect your skin. Use sunscreen preparations of SPF 15 or higher.
   
Wear protective clothing -long sleeved shirts and long pants to cover up your skin if possible.
   

Get a pair of cool shades to wear when you go outdoors.

   
  Check your skin regularly and report any changes to your doctor.
