Cancer is a disease that touches many families.
A cancer diagnosis is devastating news for not only the patient but also for friends and loved ones.

In the fight against cancer, patient's state of mind and emotions, and outlook can play an important role.
Dealing with emotions that accompany having cancer can help a patient cope more successfully
with diagnosis, treatment, and life after cancer.

Coping with cancer includes gaining knowledge about the cancer and types of cancer treatments.
Many cancer patients have said that once they learn more about cancer,
they felt more in control of what was happening to them.
Coping also means dealing with lifestyle changes and dealing with concerns like fear of pain,
fear of death and coping with the side effects of cancer treatments.

Cancer patients can seek professional help and support from their doctors,
trained nurse counsellors, medical social workers or psychologists.
Other community support services such as cancer support groups that are set up specially to help
the patient and family to cope with the emotional, physical and lifestyle changes they are facing.
