We hear the word cancer
a lot, but do you know what it means? Cancer is a disease
of the cells in our body. Cancer occurs when a cell becomes
abnormal, grows `haywire', and destroys surrounding healthy
tissues. Cancer cells may even spread to other parts of the
body causing serious health problems.
The word `cancer' comes
from the Latin word for `crab'. This is because the swollen
blood vessels that form around cancer cells often looks like
the legs of a crab sticking out from its shell.
