MRI Scan or Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The MRI Scan is a newer type of body scanner that is better at finding tumours in some parts of the body than the CT scan. It is especially good at making images of soft tissues such as the brain, spinal cord, muscles etc. The patient lies inside a large magnet that produces a powerful magnetic field around the body. The magnet is linked to a computer that makes detailed pictures that the doctor can view on a screen or print out. There is no damage to the tissues and so patients can be scanned regularly.
